Klingelbeutel (ringing bag - collecting bag) |
| Origin of word: |
old standard German |
| Explanation of word: |
"klingan" = klingen = sounding |
| Answer: |
A bag made from cloth, into which the voluntary money donations during
the service are collected. Sometimes a little bell is fastened to the bag,
this is the reason for its German name. When it is used nowadays the
'klingelbeutel' is passed through the rows in the church during singing
a parish song. In this way the offertory is collected.
