Klapotetz Sounding windmill from Steiermark, Austria Task of the Klapotetz is to drive away the birds from the vineyards, when the grapes become ripe. The tilted wings drive a wheel shaft, whose little wooden hammers knock on a board. The board has to be made from cherry tree wood, the clappers from beechwood. Only constructed in this way the Klapotetz sends besides his strange melody also ultrasound frequencies, which frighten the birds. more information about the Klapotetz |
